The Sillars Light Orchestra is a very friendly amateur ensemble’ based in Norwich,
Norfolk,
a lovely city which nestles at the top corner of East Anglia and just above Suffolk.
We play a wide range of great works, including tuneful works by unjustly neglected
composers; but we do so in the belief that playing music - any music - should always
be enjoyable. Musicians, especially amateurs, should be given the best chance possible
for self improvement and, if they have a mind for the task, to be able to play in
a fun and sociable setting - otherwise, why bother!
We employ most orchestral instruments expected to be found amongst string, woodwind,
brass and percussion sections. We are therefore able to offer playing opportunities
to players of violin, viola, violoncello (cello), double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet,
bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone and percussion.
The Style of Music We Play?
Music from Concert Hall, Stage and Screen and the type that our American friends
from across the ‘pond’ call ‘easy listening’ music. Not forgetting of course, all
those popular classical pieces of the “lighter” variety.
