The Sillars Light Orchestra is a very friendly amateur ensemble’ based in Norwich, Norfolk,

a lovely city which nestles at the top corner of East Anglia and just above Suffolk.

We play a wide range of great works, including tuneful works by unjustly neglected composers; but we do so in the belief that playing music - any music - should always be enjoyable. Musicians, especially amateurs, should be given the best chance possible for self improvement and, if they have a mind for the task, to be able to play in a fun and sociable setting - otherwise, why bother!

We employ most orchestral instruments expected to be found amongst string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections. We are therefore able to offer playing opportunities to players of violin, viola, violoncello (cello), double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone and percussion.

The Style of Music We Play?

Music from Concert Hall, Stage and Screen and the type that our American friends from across the ‘pond’ call ‘easy listening music. Not forgetting of course, all those popular classical pieces of the “lighter variety.

FOR THE ATTENTION OF CONCERT ORGANISERS!

(In Norwich, throughout Norfolk .... even into Suffolk!)

Are you intending to organise a concert as part of :

A Church/Community Festival  or  Fund Raising for a Worthy Cause?

If “Yes” to either, then please contact us.

Note: Our Orchestra is an independent and non-profit making musical group that does not receive any income or assistance from sponsors or trusts.. It is necessary, therefore, for the us to charge a performance fee, which is set at the minimum amount necessary to help meet our annual running costs.

Heading our list of vacancies at the moment are players for Violin,Viola, Oboe, French Horn and Trombone. If you are useful with a Double Bass then you too would fit in nicely.

Maybe you are just thinking about the possibilities but would like to ask some questions? Maybe, you play an instrument that is not currently listed?
